How to Join

For hundreds of years Freemasons have met “on the level” without regard to individual differences, bringing men together who might otherwise have remained at a perpetual distance. Our membership consists of men from all walks of life.

However, Masonic tradition has, since time immemorial, required that no man should be compelled to join our Order, rather, he must seek admission on his “own free will and accord.” In light of this longstanding requirement, a potential candidate for membership must ask a member to sponsor his application to join.

The Grand Lodge of Kansas welcomes those qualified men who are interested in becoming a part of the world’s oldest Fraternity — a society of friends and brothers whose members and principles have influenced, and continue to shape, our country and our history. In Kansas, a prospective member must be at least 18 years of age and profess a belief in a Supreme Being. With these qualifications met, we welcome men of every country, religion, race, age, income, education, and opinion.

The process for becoming a Mason is managed at the Lodge level. The first step towards joining is to contact a Lodge that you would like petition for membership.

– First locate a lodge in your area to join. This lodge may be close to your work or home, whichever is most convenient. Contact the lodge you choose to schedule a visit, at which time you can request a membership petition.

– When you have completed the petition, it must be signed by two Lodge members who recommend you for membership. You can also contact the lodge secretary for assistance.

– Return your application and the specified initiation fee. The lodge will schedule a visit with you and selected lodge members to discuss your application and to answer your questions. Your application will be voted upon at the next lodge meeting.

– You will be notified of your acceptance as a candidate for the degrees, and you will receive instructions about the three degree ceremonies. The degrees explain Freemasonry and give you the opportunity to experience the lodge’s traditions and fellowship. When you complete all three degrees, you become a full member.

We look forward to meeting you on the level.
